Just like us humans who need routine dental visits, so do cats. Taking your cat annually to the vet for a routine dental check can prevent dental disease and gum disease.

Brushing your cat’s teeth on a weekly basis can help to prevent dental issues. Special toothbrushes for cats, baby toothbrushes or even something soft such as gauze can be used to brush your cat’s teeth. A recommended toothpaste for cats is VIRBAC and it comes in several flavors.

If your cat experiences any of the following contact your vet as your kitty may be having some dental issues:

  • Foul odor coming from the mouth
  • Chewing on one side of the mouth or dropping food while eating
  • Abnormally red gums
  • Excessive drooling
  • Tartar
